Hi,

Thank you for posting your question in Microsoft Community!
As I understand you are facing with Microsoft .NET Framework.

What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

Method 1:

Let's perform SFC scan and check if it the issue persists.
To do so, please refer the following article.

The SFC /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.
For more information how to do SFC/ scan, please follow the following link:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

Method 2:
Let's try repairing the .NET Framework, use the .NET Framework Cleanup Tool to uninstall multiple versions of the .NET Framework, and then reinstall the components.

To do this, we have to follow these steps:

1.
Visit the following blog post:

.NET Framework Cleanup Tool User's Guide (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspx)

2.
Download dotnetfx_cleanup_tool.zip from the following site:
http://blogs.msdn.com/cfs-file.ashx/__key/CommunityServer-Components-PostAttachments/00-08-90-44-93/dotnetfx_5F00_cleanup_5F00_tool.zip

3.
When you are prompted, click Open, and then click Extract Now.

4.
In the files that you extracted, double-click cleanup_tool.exe.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, provide the password, and then click Continue.

5.
In the Do you want to run the .NET Framework Setup Cleanup Utility? message, click Yes.

Note This tool may be in English only, but it also works for other language versions of Windows.

6.
Click Yes to accept the license agreement.

7.
In the Product to cleanup window, click the drop-down list, select a .NET Framework version that you want to remove, and then click Cleanup Now.

Note The cleanup tool does not let you remove the .NET Framework 2.0 in Windows Vista or later versions of Windows because the .NET Framework is installed as an operating system component.

8.
After the .NET Framework is removed, restart the computer.

9.
Download and install the following components:

.NET Framework 1.1
Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package

.NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 (SP1)
Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1

.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 (this will also install the .NET Framework 2.0 SP2 and the .NET Framework 3.0 SP2)

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1

.NET Framework 4

Microsoft .NET Framework 4 (Web Installer)

10.
Restart the computer.

11.
Visit Windows Update again, and then check for and install updates.

Manually editing the Windows registry

Manually editing the Windows registry to remove invalid MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION keys is not recommended unless you are PC service professional. Incorrectly editing your registry can stop your PC from functioning and create irreversible damage to your operating system. In fact, one misplaced comma can prevent your PC from booting entirely!

Caution: Unless you an advanced PC user, we DO NOT recommend editing the Windows registry manually. Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall Windows. We do not guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To manually repair your Windows registry, first you need to create a backup by exporting a portion of the registry related to MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION (eg. Windows Operating System):

  • Click the Start button.
  • Type "command" in the search box... DO NOT hit ENTER yet!
  • While holding CTRL-Shift on your keyboard, hit ENTER.
  • You will be prompted with a permission dialog box.
  • Click Yes.
  • A black box will open with a blinking cursor.
  • Type "regedit" and hit ENTER.
  • In the Registry Editor, select the Error 0x9C-related key (eg. Windows Operating System) you want to back up.
  • From the File menu, choose Export.
  • In the Save In list, select the folder where you want to save the Windows Operating System backup key.
  • In the File Name box, type a name for your backup file, such as "Windows Operating System Backup".
  • In the Export Range box, be sure that "Selected branch" is selected.
  • Click Save.
  • The file is then saved with a .reg file extension.
  • You now have a backup of your MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION-related registry entry.

[Solution] adding =substitute formula to an existing formula reformats cell value from percentage to plain number

adding =substitute formula to an existing formula reformats cell value from percentage to plain number

Hi there,
I have a formula which brings sales upsell percentages from a seperate sheet (copied in from an sql database table) into the main page of my sales kpi worksheet.
As you may know, missing data in sql table fields can sometimes appear as "-" or "NaN" and sometimes
"Infinity" given certain circumstances.

Using a formula like: =SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(VLOOKUP(A1,Sheet2!$A$1:$B$2,2,false),"NaN",0),"-",0),"Infinity",0) usually sorts this out, meaning a vlookup would return 0 instead.
No worries.
The problem comes from adding this type of formula to an exising =IF(ISERROR formula which corrects missing sales agent names where #N/A would usually be returned.
When I try to incorporate an =substitute formula to the existing =IF(ISERROR formula, this
is when the cell values get reformatted as a plain number rather than a percentage.
(Eg.
49.12% would be reformatted as 0.4912)
My formula as it stands:
=IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(B2,Feed9!$A$2:$AG$127,46,false)),0,VLOOKUP(B2,Feed9!$A$2:$AG$127,46,false))
This returns either the data im after, or zero if nothing is found.
Great.

However, if there are results other than the data im after (such as "-" "NaN" "Infinity" etc, mentioned above) this returns a #VALUE error.
Ive tried different ways of adding an =substitute formula, and each time it reformats the cell values from percentage
values to simple numerical values.
This is what ive tried so far:
=SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(SUBSTITUTE(IF(ISERROR(VLOOKUP(B2,Feed9!$A$2:$AG$127,46,false)),0,VLOOKUP(B2,Feed9!$A$2:$AG$127,46,false)),"NaN",0),"-",0),"Infinity",0)
This returns the correct data, but expressed as 0.4912 rather than 49.12%
Any ideas how this can be avoided?
- Please excuse any syntax errors, formulas typed from memory -

Download SmartPCFixer to Fix It (Free)

First off, I would replace your IF(ISERROR(), .., ...) with the IFERROR(..., ) available in Excel since Excel 2007.
This drastically reduces the length of the formula and provides for a default value.
Then use a double unary (e.g.
double minus or --) to attempt a conversion to a true numerical value.
The text values that look like percentages should convert to their numerical values (e.g.
0.4912) and anything else should throw an error, resulting in the default from IFERROR().
=IFERROR(--VLOOKUP(B2, Feed9!$A$2:$AG$127,46,FALSE)), 0)
Format the results as Percentage with two decimal places and you should have real numbers that you can work with.
Note that IFERROR() was introduced with Excel 2007 and if you need to provide compatibility with version of Excel prior to that this proposed solution may not be appropriate.

Running System Update Readiness Command

On running the System Update readiness Command, it will Detect & Replace Incorrect Registry data with the Correct one. Which may ultimately Solve adding =substitute formula to an existing formula reformats cell value from percentage to plain number in Windows.

  1. Open CMD as Administrator by Simply Right Clicking on Start button > Command Prompt (Admin).
  2. Now Type or Copy paste "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth" and hit Enter,
  3. Now again Type or Copy paste this "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth" and hit Enter.
  4. Close the Command Prompt Window because we are done.

Try and see if you still get the same error adding =substitute formula to an existing formula reformats cell value from percentage to plain number in your Windows.

Note: You may be prompted to enter your administrator's password when you try to execute certain system tasks!

Tech Support: After Install / Uninstall Permissions Issues

After Install / Uninstall Permissions Issues

Two months ago I attempted to install some programs on my Laptop running 64-bit Windows Vista.
The install worked but the program would not launch and I went into the program files to check for answers.
I discovered that every single file in the program
folder was installed with no ownership or rights given to me.
To make it work I had to maually give myself ownership and then full control to make it work.
Ever since that point, whenever I install a new program the same thing happens.
To further complicate things I unistalled some programs that were already running on my computer and reinstalled them, as a test, with the same effect.
I checked my profile settings and seem to have administartor rights but am not sure why all newly installed programs seem to take away my access?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as it is very annoying and time consuming to try and give myself ownership for each file installed.

How to Resolve - Adding new computer with Windows 7 to my current network of Windows XP computers?

Adding new computer with Windows 7 to my current network of Windows XP computers

I'm thinking of buying a new desktop with Windows 7 to my current home network of computers that have Windows XP.

1) What problems/conflicts would I expect if I leave the current setup of Windows XP OR would it be easier to upgrade the current Windows XP computers  to Windows 7?

2)If the latter is the case, do I need to create a new workgroup for Windows 7?
3) Is there any modification to the network itself, physically and/or reconfiguration for Windows 7?
Thanks for your help!

You're welcome, hamnod.  Some older routers have trouble with Windows 7 (and Vista).  Try yours.  If it hangs or acts up repeatedly, replace it with one that's listed in the

Windows 7 Compatibility Center .  You can look up your router there.
