Cannot change font; cells won't format--WORK AROUND

In the spirit of reciprocity, thought I'd put this problem & fix out there since I just spent an hour pulling out my hair and strangely (and maybe for the first time ever) could not find any threads out there with the same/similar problem. I'm pretty
proficient with Excel too, but this was killing me...absolutely maddening.
Anyway, I noticed the problem when I cut and paste a bunch of cells from one workbook to another. When I'd highlight the entire worksheet to adjust the font the cells that had been pasted would not change. I then realized that I had many many sheets within
these two HUGE workbooks that for whatever reason would not allow a font change--I could change ALL other formatting that I tried. And, the cell wouldsay it was the font that I wanted even though it clearly wasn't.
After protecting/unprotecting, sharing/unsharing, closing/reopening, changing default font, running Office diagnostics, etc...THE FIX...CHANGE THE FONT SIZE .
As soon as I changed the font size (even by one pt.) all of the fonts changed to the proper font and then I just reverted to the original size.
If you ever run into this stupid problem now here's a thread out there to try and help you resolve this.

Run CHKDSK to Fix Cannot change font; cells won't format--WORK AROUND

Go to the Start button.
In the Search box, type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter.
At the command prompt, type "chkdsk /r /f" (without quotes) and press Enter.
