cannot open a file in Excel 2007 brought over from the Internet (trusted source).

I get an error message stating that "Excel found unreadable content in Book_Name".  When prompted to recover the contents, I get a message saying the file is corrupt and it will not let me open it.  These files are brought over from our payroll company
so I know they are not corrupt.  I've tried several different fixes and nothing seems to work.
