I purchased a new laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 4 months ago have the auto play has never worked properly.  I first noticed this when I tried to download pictures via USB or the SD card, but I was able to open the file and copy the pics to my computer. 
Until recently I have not tried to install anything except music on my computer.  When I insert the CD to download a new program I purchased the auto run doesn’t work.  However, when I enter a music CD (only when iTunes is open) it recognizes the CD with no
problems.

Tweak IE Options

• Open Internet Explorer.
• Go to "Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab".
• Uncheck "Enable third-party browser extensions".
• Click "Apply".
  
• Reboot your computer.
